Why do you cry? What emotions are typically running through your body when you decide to shed some tears. For me, I usually cry when I’m beyond angry. Like, when I don’t have any other outlet and can’t quite use force in a particular situation I will cry. I may also cry when I’ve experienced a significant loss, whether that’s in some sporting event or the loss of a loved one. You cry when you experience hurt, and if we are being completely honest that hurt is accompanied with a spirit of defeat and hopelessness.
My Tom-boy and tough girl nature will sometimes cause me to hold back my tears, but there are moments when I can’t help it. For about a month now, I have gone to bed with tears and woken up with tears. I walk into work with bags under my eyes, but the key cover up is “allergies.” I mean duhhhhh…it is that time of year. Ha! I’ve had to challenge myself and I dare you to do the same. Why am I really crying? What’s going on? I find myself in tears because I’ve lost sight of the true essence of God and who He promised He would be to me. We have to remind ourselves that when we are His, there’s no doubting His ability to rectify a situation. It ALWAYS works out in the end. I’m reminded of Romans 8:28 that says, “And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord. To those who are the called according to His purpose.” It may not feel like it today, but trust me. There is a master plan and in the end there will be glory! Oh yes!
When you find yourself in this situation, grab hold of Psalm 42:3-5 that says, “My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why are thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” You want to stop crying? Find your hope in God. You want your praise back? Find your hope in God. Do you need your strength and joy back? Find your hope in God. He is the same God that you celebrate on the mountain top. Let Him be the same God that will support you in the valley. You don’t have to fear because you are not alone. He will be with you. Wherever you find yourself, there He is in the midst. 1)Reflect on God’s goodness! Even on your worst day, you can declare that He’s brought you from a mighty long way. 2)Recall scriptures to help you find your strength. Let him restore unto you the joy of your salvation. 3)Refrain from being consumed with fear and doubt. Easier said than done. But you must believe that our God is GREATER! Period!
